Sanya Malhotra joins Vidya Balan in the cast for the Anu Menon directed Shakuntala Devi - Human Computer - Here is what makes it special
Things are turning out to be more and more exciting for the Shakuntala Devi story. Just a few days back the film’s first look poster was unveiled where Vidya Balan came across as a splitting image of the mathematics legend. The lady, who lived a colourful life, also had a daughter. Now the news is out that it is none other than Dangal and Badhaai Ho fame Sanya Malhotra who would enact this part. “When you are telling the true story of iconic and inspiring yet multi-layered individuals, the actors playing the characters need to be as real as they can get. Vidya Balan, essaying the title role, is a powerhouse performer and you can expect her to switch between Silk Smitha (The Dirty Picture) to Mission Mangal’s scientist to Shakuntala Devi with effortless ease. The challenge is on casting other key characters who are a critical part of the Shakuntala Devi story. In this case, the actor had to be just right for the kind of stage and set up that director Anu Menon has put together for Shakuntala Devi. This is where Sanya came in”, informs our insider. For Vikram Malhotra and Abundantia Entertainment, who have revelled in getting the casting for their content perfectly right - case in point being Akshay Kumar for Airlift or even Madhavan-led Breathe on the series front - the choice had to be made with much precision. “Exactly,” says Vikram, “This film is not just a biopic of the enigma of whom we have heard many stories during our growing up years, it is also about the mother that she was and the daughter whom she loved immensely. When you look at Sanya, you have an actor that finds an instant connect with the audience. This has been the case in her earlier movies too. Now for Shakuntala Devi, she came across as just the perfect fit for playing Anupama, Shakuntala Devi’s daughter. We look forward to bringing this story alive with these amazing artistes”. Filming for Shakuntala Devi is on in full swing in London and the excitement is only set to go higher for this Sony Pictures Networks and Abundantia produced film.
